RESTON, VA — Sales of kitchen cabinets and bathroom vanities, impacted by sluggishness in both the new construction and residential remodeling sectors, have posted consecutive monthly declines in each of the first three months of 2024, the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association reported.
According to the KCMA’s latest monthly “Trend of Business Survey,” released in early May, participating manufacturers reported that overall cabinet and vanity sales for March were down 9.7% from sales posted in the same month last year. Cabinet/vanity sales were also down 7.0% and 5.6% in January and February, respectively, from the same months in 2023, according to the Reston, VA-based KCMA. Year-to-date sales through March were off 7.3% from the same three-months of 2023, the association added.
March declines were led by a sharp (21.5%) decrease in custom cabinets. Semi-custom cabinet sales, by comparison, were down 5.3%, while sales of stock cabinets fell 3.1%, the KCMA reported.
Cabinet and vanity sales in 2023 posted a modest annual decline from the prior year.
