SCOTTSDALE, AZ — While open kitchens provide additional space for family and friends to gather, tying rooms together to resemble one cohesive space can often be a challenge. For Amber Carfield, lead designer for Kitchens by Good Guys in Scottsdale, AZ, delivering a kitchen and bar area with a classic Scottsdale Chic design was the task at hand.
This San Ricardo project was a massive remodel, according to Carfield, who collaborated with the homeowner’s general contractor to complete the client’s vision. “The client’s desire was to open the kitchen, extend the laundry room, install a large island and have a beautiful bar,” she notes.
The laundry room wall was moved and an exterior wall was replaced with glass sliding doors. The contractor cleaned up the bar area by removing excessive drywall, and replaced the flooring throughout the home.
On the perimeter cabinets in the kitchen, Swiss Coffee, a soft white paint, was paired with black-veined quartz countertop, which was also incorporated onto the bar. To complement the pairing, alder-stained cabinetry in Riverrock, a warmer tone, was chosen for the island and the bar area. A white quartz with a marble aesthetic tops the island. The island, perimeter and bar feature beaded inset shaker doors.
“Our clients requested a large island to serve as the hub of the home, where kids can have snacks and do homework and mom and dad can enjoy a relaxing glass of wine at the end of the day,” states Carfield.
For backsplash tiles, two different square and rectangle shapes with similar colors were used to add some interest and texture and make that bar area feel special. “Gold and black metal accents like the cabinet door hardware and the light fixtures were used to add that warm contrast and sparkle,” adds the designer.
“The warm blend of Swiss Coffee and Riverrock-stained cabinets complements the wood floors and gold accents used throughout,” reports Carfield. “The warmer stain used for the island and bar really pulls the space together, so it is seen as one large space.”
